Let me explain:

If you have a link posted on a website that ranks well for certain keywords, this means that search engines like Google considers this site as an authority site. Typically because this site has high level of traffic, user interactions, fresh content and activity.

When you do a search for example on Google, you enter a keyword and often get hundreds of thousands even millions in results. The sites that rank on page 1 of Google are generally an authority site where there are high levels of activity, traffic, users, fresh content and interactions.

Some typical authority sites are social media sites (Youtube, Facebook, twitter, etc), business directory listings (truelocal, etc), article directories (ezinearticle, articlecity, etc) and industry websites.

Therefore having a link on these sites to your website will drive lots of targeted traffic to your website for free.

It is therefore important to find sites that rank well to post a link to your website otherwise you could be wasting your time posting links on websites that will NEVER generate traffic for you because they are not an authority site.

So how do you determine which authority sites you should post your website link for maximum free traffic?

One solution is to do a Google search on a keyword, then post your links on all the sites that showed up on the 1st page of Google’s search result. Although this is a simple method, it is not necessarily accurate as website rankings change daily.
